In the video below I will show you step by step how you can register a domain name and purchase a web hosting account on Namecheap. We will go through the buying process, the domain name selection. I will also show you how you can configure the SSL certificate that comes with the Namecheap hosting and how to activate it.
But what is an SSL certificate?
You will have likely already noticed that some websites start with ‘http://’, while others start with ‘https://’. The first one stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and the other HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS). In a nutshell, an SSL certificate is a digital certificate that is used to authenticate the identity of a website and to encrypt information sent to the server. Today it is now also a confirmed, key ranking signal for Google. It means if your site does not have an SSL certificate, it will not do very well in Google search results.
